I loved the old Eva and the young version. What I thought: I enjoyed this immensely. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II-an experience Eva remembers well-and the search to reunite people with the texts taken from them so long ago. She freezes it’s an image of a book she hasn’t seen in sixty-five years-a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. Goodreads says: Eva Traube Abrams, a semi-retired librarian in Florida, is shelving books one morning when her eyes lock on a photograph in a magazine lying open nearby. The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel | ★★★★☆ Some people read very slowly – my dad for example – but the books stay with him. I do not want to put any pressure on anyone and I really don’t think the number of books we read, own or want has any meaning. Please, if this introduction makes you feel like you didn’t read enough, don’t. That I was able to already tackle my reading goals. So I enjoy that this month where some great books came my way. I know there will be times when I can hardly finish one book. I am very excited to start the new year with such a strong reading month. To be precise it is time talking about January’s books.

I decided to check it out (even though it’s a YA book that clocks in at over 600 pages-seriously, 600 pages? YA?). So when I read the premise for PATHFINDER I was simultaneously intrigued and a little wary. Orson Scott Card is one of those writers who has written brilliant, wonderful stuff (ENDER’S GAME, SPEAKER FOR THE DEAD, TREASON)… and then he’s written some stuff that pretty much sucked. And let’s be clear from the get go here, this is a fun story. And you still think it’s a science fiction book? I do.Īm I going to explain myself to you? No I am not. I mean doesn’t it even have a sword on the cover for Pete’s sake? Yep. You know, horses and wagons, swords and magical type stuff happening? Yep. Doesn’t it take place in a fairly medieval setting? Yep. I read the premise, it sounds like a fantasy book. PATHFINDER is not a fantasy book, it is science fiction. WARNING! PATHFINDER ( Amazon) is not a fantasy book, it is science fiction. Richard Whittle: In 2001, the Predator became the first weapon in history whose operators could use it to stalk and kill a single individual on the other side of the planet much the way a sniper does, and with total invulnerability. Q: Air & Space Magazine said the Predator was one of 10 aircraft that changed the world. Now Whittle has published the first comprehensive book on the history of the Predator and the "secret origins of the drone revolution." Earlier this week, he shared his thoughts on the program with CNET. "I'm not sure," Whittle told his agent, who'd asked about his plans, "but these unmanned aerial vehicles look interesting." After writing a book on the V-22 Osprey, a tilt-rotor military aircraft that takes off and lands like a helicopter, longtime Pentagon correspondent Richard Whittle found himself wondering what to write about next. What everyone else also spending the night at Lodgepole isn't aware of, is that there is also a serial killer with a fetish for sadism and sodomy spending the night there amongst them, with one of his victims. The main characters of the book are around two very close friends, Eddy and Al, whom end up stealing a car with a body in the boot, and decide to spend the night at Lodgepole. The book involves a number of characters, mainly in pairs, for whom whatever reason described in the book, decided to spend the night at the Lodgepole Pine Motel. I decided to chase up his first book and give it a go. I then discovered that he was an author residing in the State of Victoria, same State as myself, and after reading bits and pieces about the guy, the most interesting which caught my attention his die-hard true passion and dedication he showed towards the 70's and 80's horror gender. One such personal favourite was the original Friday the 13th, and amongst the site I was viewing was a link to Mr McBean's (whom caught my attention due to him being from Australia) personal pics from his trip to the States back in 2001, of the original film location of `Camp Crystal Lake.' A Boy Scout Camp located just outside of Blairstown, New Jersey, called in real life `Camp NoBeBoSco' and used for the original Friday the 13th filming location. I first discovered Brett McBean searching for my favourite horror movie locations. She would be delighted if you visited her at and fairly giddy if you liked her selfies on Instagram. Donny Cates exploits the possibilities of that extremely satisfyingly, using familiar characters and names, yet twisted away from the way we know them to be. There’s little connection with the preceding Venom Island as after an opening featuring the Avengers and Maker, most of Venom Beyond takes place on an alternate world. While the constant switching of artists is unsatisfying, at least they’re all good artists. The sample art shows Juan Gedeon’s version of Venom is very different from the one Luke Ross draws, and sadly only the opening chapter is drawn by Ryan Stegman, introducing a new armoured villain with some familiar toys. True, three of them have worked on this Venom series before, but until now that’s always been on separate stories, and having them all draw chapters of what’s essentially one long continued story messes with the consistency. In Venom Beyond the series falls prey to ever-changing artist syndrome. In Tyson’s best-selling memoir Undisputed Truth, he recounted the role D’Amato played in his formative years, adopting him at age 16 after his mother died and shaping him both physically and mentally after Tyson had spent years living in fear and poverty. D’Amato died a year before Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history. When Cus D’Amato first saw 13-year-old Mike Tyson spar in the ring, he proclaimed, “That’s the heavyweight champion of the world.” D’Amato, who had previously managed the careers of world champions Floyd Patterson and José Torres, would go on to train the young Tyson and raise him as a son. From the former heavyweight champion and New York Times best-selling memoirist comes an intimate look at the life and leadership lessons of Cus D’Amato, the legendary boxing trainer and Mike Tyson’s surrogate father. |
